Climb Description

Alto de la Mozqueta is a very scenic climb in the hills of Asturias. It is a fairly challenging ascent, with the final 6km averaging a nagging 8.5%, and the gradients regulalry kick into double figures for short sections.

But there is also plenty to distract you, particularly on the steeper upper slopes. The open scenery and the vibrant green countryside makes for a fantastic and highly recommended climb.

La Mozqueta has also become a star of the Vuelta in recent years, featuring in both 2018 and 2020 in multi-mountain stages.

Alto de la Mozqueta is usually open throughout the year.

Roads & Traffic

The road is in excellent condition throughout and there is little traffic on the climb.

Alternative Routes

Alto de la Mozqueta can be climbed from the other side, starting in the town of Figaredo. The climb to La Colladiella also finishes in more or less the same place, and is another very nice route.
