Climb Description
La Carrasqueta is one of the most famous cycling climbs in the Alicante province, having been climbed many times in the Vuelta a España. The climb begins from Xixona, which is best known as the home of turrón - a very tasty almond based confectionary which is particularly popular in Spain around Christmas. You will pass through many almond fields if you you cycle around this area. The climb itself, like many in the Alicante province, is gentle with no challenging gradients. The long sweeping hairpins make it easy to ascend up what is nearly a vertical cliff face in places. There are some stunning views looking south towards the Costa Blanca on this side of the climb.
La Carrasqueta is open throughout the year.
Roads & Traffic
The road is in very good condition throughout.
The first part of the climb until Xixona carries some traffic, including the occasional truck. However, there is a wide hard shoulder and so it detracts very little from the enjoyment or safety of the climb. After Xixona, it becomes much quieter.
