Alto del Torno from Nueva is an excellent climb, which is more fun to ride than its statistics suggest. This side is not quite as spectacular as the south side from Labra, but it is still a great ride. The lower, steeper slopes are largely forested, before you reach a plateau where the scenery begins to open up. Towards the top you begin to get views of the both the coast and the mountains of the Picos de Europa National Park.
The Alto del Torno was discovered by the Vuelta a España in 2014, when it was used late in stage that finished at the nearby Lagos de Covadonga.
Alto del Torno is open throughout the year, although there can be short-term closures in winter due to snow.

The road is surface is in very good condition and there is very little traffic on this climb.
The top is only 526m altitude, but has the look and feel of high mountains
Alternative Routes
Alto del Torno can also be climbed from the south, going via the village of Labra. This is our preferred route in terms of scenery.
