Climb Description

The climb to Castell de Cocentaina is a short and quite challenging ascent to the iconic castle that overlooks the town of Cocentaina. It is a pleasant climb full of tight switchbacks, set in the shadow of the imposing Montcabrer - the highest peak in the Mariola park.

The views from the top of the climb are fantastic. The wide range of visibility makes it obvious why the Muslim emirs of Al-Andalus (who were in control of the region during the Middle Ages) thought it was a good place to build a surveillance tower! The road itself stops just short of the castle, and it is about a 200m hike to get up to the top.

Castell de Cocentaina is open throughout the whole year.

Roads & Traffic

The road is in good condition throughout and there is little traffic on the climb.
