Climb Description
Monte Zoncolan is one of the most infamous climbs in cycling. The climb from Sutrio is the 'easier' side, but don't let that fool you. It still averages the best part of 9%, with the last three kilometres particularly challenging. Most cyclists descend this side after climbing from Ovaro, and it is an enjoyable descent once the road gets wider after passing the ski village.
The climb to the ski village is open throughout the year, but the climb is best done between May and October.
Roads & Traffic
The road surface is generally in good condition, although it is cracked in places on the upper section and coming through the ski village. This is nothing more than a minor annoyance though, and is more of an issue
when descending this side than climbing it.
Unless you climb during the main ski season, there is very little traffic throughout.
