Climb Description

Passo Nigra from Bolzano is more or less the same climb as Passo Costalunga, with a false flat section at the top. It is a very pleasant climb on a quiet road, which passes through forest for the majority of the ascent. Towards the top of the climb you ride close to the picturesque Carezza Lake and have views of the spectcular Rosengarten massif.

Passo Nigra is best climbed from May to October.

Roads & Traffic

The road surface is generally in very condition, although it is slightly broken in places.

The climb is mostly very quiet. Although it gets slightly busier as you join the main road towards the top. Be careful not to take the SS-241 from Cardano (Bolzano), as there are long tunnels on this road which are not suitable for bicycles.

Alternative Routes

Passo Nigra can also be climbed from the west via Brie and from Prato all'Isarco.

From the east, the pass is just a short extension of the climb to Passo Costalunga.
