Climb Description

Ixua is one of the longer climbs in this part of the Baque Country; although the first 3km until the village of Barinaga are little more than a false flat. The climb is regularly used in the Tour of the Basque Country cycling race; indeed, Ixua shares a mountain with the more famous Arrate.

The climb is largely forested, but it is a quiet road and a really pleasant climb. It is best combined with some of the many other great climbs in the area to make a challenging longer ride. Ixua is open throughout the year.

Roads & Traffic

The road surface is in good condition and there is little traffic throughout the climb.

Alternative Routes

The southern side of Ixua, from Eibar, is basically the same climb as Arrate for the majority of the route, turning left to Ixua just as the flatter part begins!
