Climb Description
El Sao is one of the most interesting climbs in Gran Canaria. The length and gradients are nothing really to write home about, but the scenery is truly beautiful. The road winds up through the Agaete valley, which has its own microclimate and is home to a wide array of exotic fruits. Keep your eyes peeled as you ascend for bananas, mangos, papayas, passion fruit and even coffee, which are all grown in the fields and orchards alongside the road.
If you are in the Agaete area, we highly recommend riding this out and back climb. And it's well worth stopping in one of the restaurants on the way to sample some of the local produce.
The climb to El Sao is open throughout the year.
