Roads & TrafficThe road surface is in condition throughout. The road is mostly very quiet, although there is some traffic towards the top as you join the main road.
Passo Costalunga from Bolzano is a long cycling climb which takes you from the city of Bolzano into the Dolomites. Make sure you avoid the busy SS-241 road and follow this quiet and picturesque route, which is a lot of fun to ride, but without too much spectacular scenery.
Passo Costalunga is a long climb and with some moderately challenging sections. However, for experienced cycle tourists it has the kind of gradients which allow you to get into a nice rhythm and really enjoy the climb.
Passo Costalunga is best climbed from May to October.
